Private Vaux-le-Vicomte Tour from Paris

Located in Maincy, just 55 km (34 miles) southeast of Paris, Vaux-le-Vicomte is a masterpiece of French baroque architecture. Commissioned by Nicolas Fouquet in 1658, the château was built in under four years with the combined talents of architect Louis Le Vau, painter Charles Le Brun, and landscape designer André Le Nôtre — a collaboration that later inspired Versailles Palace.
Vaux-le-Vicomte became a cultural hub for writers, poets, painters, and sculptors under Fouquet’s patronage. Its grandeur, however, led to Fouquet’s dramatic downfall following the legendary party of August 17, 1661, attended by King Louis XIV, Queen Anne of Austria, Molière, and Lully. The opulent event, featuring fireworks, music, and luxurious dining, ultimately provoked the King’s jealousy, leading to Fouquet’s arrest and lifelong imprisonment.
