SAINTE CHAPELLE PRIVATE TOUR
Private guided tour of the Sainte Chapelle church, a real hidden gem built in Gothic style, with its breathtaking stained glass windows depicting 1113 scenes from the Old and New Testament, located on the Ile de la Cite within the complex of the Palais de la Cite in Paris.
Built in only 7 years, between 1241 and 1248, the purpose of the Sainte Chapelle ('Holy Chappell" in French) was to host precious Christian relics, such as Jesus Christ's crown of thorns (now hosted in Notre Dame), purchased at the time by our King Saint Louis, Louis IX, who used to admire the relics he had purchased in his two-story chapel.
At the time, Paris had a population of 200.000 people, the most inhabited city in Europe and France was very wealthy and powerful.
